Subject: v6...stalling out!!!! HELP!! IP: Logged
Message: i got a 96 Dakota bought 2 months ago and i am already having problems. The truck ran fine and then yesterday. When i start the truck up it immediately stalls out. This is very peristane. Reving the engine to high rpms for several minutes doesn't change a thing. as soon as i let off the accelerator it stalls. but...if i rev it up and put it in drive after about a mile or so it will stay running. if i shut it off and try to start again i have to do the same process to maintain it running. now idk what it could be. i put it in my garage for the day and c if that helped( to thaw it out) but nope. same problem. i have put dry gas in the tank and i got 1 good start out of it and then back to the problem. i pulled spark plugs and they seemed good.......if i do get it going it ideals between 600 and 1000 rpms. After reving it tho the rpms drop to almost nothing and then they come back up! please help....

Message: Clean the IAC motor. Its at the back of the throttle body (on my 92). Use carb cleaner and be carefull when you remove it dont push or pry on the plunger, just spray with cleaner and let it dry. Spray the port and let it dry.
That should help.

Message: It is only about 1 buck for a new TB gasket.
If I was you I would remove the whole TB and give it a good cleaning too. It will make it easier to clean the IAC while you have the TB off also.

Message: Most common causes, as stated, are weak battery, bad AIS or bad TPS (or the wiring to each).

Message: Hey guys, I was just thinking, Trev1 was having kind of a simular problem, and it turned out to be a map sensor vacuum hose, perhaps this is the same thing just not as bad yet.
Good Luck

Message: Dakota49 dont' be so sure. I was driving home today and it acted up again.. Just died....no codes, it started up after 5 minutes or so. It was running great up until then.
It's a good item to check for his problem. but mine goes deeper. Im out of ideas. And patience. The new GMC Canyon looks better and better. But DAMN I HATE to get rid of my Dakota..

Message: I know it's been a long time but I figured mine out about three weeks ago. It was the coil that made mine stall intermitally. Replaced it and it has not stalled out since.
I got over 265,000 on it know.

Message: Heh, my '99 V6 Dak (150k miles) is doing a very similar thing. It will turn over but not start, unless I gas it, at which point it will start but will die once I remove my foot from the accelerator. It did this once before (both today and the previous time were when a cold front blew in), and that time it began working fine after just sitting out and warming up over 6-8 hours.
The battery has been load tested, it's a champ, but I haven't done much else yet. It's weird, it started at 8am, drove it for 5 minutes, wouldn't start at 9am, let it sit for 2.5 hours, now it starting at 11:30am.
Hopefully the specifics help someone diagnose the issue, for which I'd be very grateful, but otherwise I'll trying cleaning the TB and IAS, and replacing the TB gasket.
