Subject: Overdrive Not Working IP: Logged
Message: I have a 95 Dodge Dakota with 3.9 and Auto tranny. My overdrive or the cruise control didn't work since I got the vehicle, I figured easy fix since the OD button didn't light up and both systems are tied in together. I figured blown fuse but that was too easy. I had a friend scan it for me and I got alot of codes on both engine and tranny which one was speed sensor so I changed it. That wasn't it so I found all the codes for the vehicle with thier symptoms and fixes.I started reading all of them that I had and they all had a common denominator, the PCM. I bought a stripper 94 Dakota identical to mine and figured what the hell and tried the PCM from it and BINGO my overdrive and cruise control started working. The PCM worked just by bolting it in place with neg. cable disconnected and starting it. I guess the older PCMs don't need to be programmed like the new ones. Now if I can just get the rest fixed.

Message: If the comp does not read the voltage tru
the sol nether o/d or the o/d off button
will operate
3 wire plug drivers side near shift linkage
front wire o/d
center wire 12 volt with key on
back lockup
Here is what you need to do volt ohm meter
leave it plged in get 2 stick pins
key on
center wire + on meter
- on meter to ground should have batt volts there
key off
center wire front wire
200 ohm resistance 180 to 220 normal
check lockup sol also center and back wire
just stick the pin into wires when done
checking just rub som silicone over were
you stuck the pins to seal it
first unplug and be sure the connections
are clean that could also be the prob
if sols ok check wires to comp
front o/d pin 55 on comp
back wire pin 54 on computer lockup
this is all one needs to know to check this out
Also you can jack up the back wheel on stands
be sure it will not fall
trans plug in
pin in front wire run a wire into cab with
you now run in drive around 20mph, now ground
the front wire and it should shift into o/d
can check lockup the same way
if it shifts than the wire to comp is bad
somewhere and beleave me who ever designed
the wire harnas was nuts there are splices
everwhere in it
if wire is bad the best thing to do instead of
undoing the harnass is run a new wire from
plug on trans to wire at comp pin
I have had to undo wire harnases from the
o2 all the way to comp to find some of these
bad splices its a pain
Now get busy and fix it LOL
