Subject: gas guage IP: Logged
Message: why is my gas guage different in the morning then what it was when i parked it the night before? No one is stealing gas either. The guage is always dropped by at least 1/8 of an inch, almost like i drove it some more after parking it. also, is it possible to loose gas through evaporation? It's weird but it just seems like i'm loosing gas without driving it but i've got no leaks and no one is stealing it and i've never had a problem with the guage.
one other quick question. Is it normal for my truck to use more gas when it's cold? I had pretty decent MPG all summer long (21-22 per gallon highway) and now i'm probly getting about 17 or 18 highway with the colder weather.

Message: I'm not sure about the gas gauge, but you do lose some gas mileage when it gets cold. If you have syntheic gear oil in the rear end that will help, and in the trans if its an auto.
With the gas gauge, I have noticed if I fuel without shutting off the eng. my gauge won't register correctly untill I shut it off and restart. Could be its just slow and when you restart the next morning it is showing the correct fuel level. That's only a guess on my part though.
Good Luck

Message: are you sure you're losing gas? Could it be the fuel gauge is wrong?

Message: my parking space is not level, but when i park at work it is level and it does it. i'm thinking maybe it's just some variance in the guage, maybe possibly sticking or something in the tank. oh well, she's getting old, should be expected i guess! 80,000 miles all mostly highway though.

Message: I had gauge problems before and turned out to be the sending unit. Another time I had gauge problems in the same truck, turned out to be a fuel pump issue.
Gauge was around $50 and new pump $180. I still have that gauge for my old 95. I had to special order it, no returns.
