Hi Tyler
Answer me something if you would,
What is it you are looking for or expect to get from the headers? and you are talking a 3.9 motor?

yea its a 3.9 and i want to get some more horses and torque out of it, better exceleration and some more power to the wheels, but still mantain or improve fuel economy. acculy the headers arnt the only thing i want to get, im thinkg about : msd wires, a cold air intake ( not sure which ones best) and a tuner,(prob. superchips since i cant find anywhere elts that makes them) but i dont know what the best set up is. any help would be much appreciated.

For what its worth, Unless your motor is pretty well modified your not going to see much for gains.
Take into the fact the high cost of headers for the 3.9 you really don't get much bang for the buck. A larger cam, Roller Rockers, Performance Throttle Body are all good Mods. which give you decent increases for the dollar. Stock factory manifolds from a 92 or 93 flow all most as good as the headers and cost far less.

It's just my 2cents, But we've had a few guys on here that after doing the headers were not really impressed.

Mine is a 2002 3.9 and I looked long and hard at headers, too, and finally decided not to do them - just too many dollars for the little HP/torque increase.

I think the best mod's that I did were the bigger throttle body (Fastman), the HS 1.7 roller rockers, and the Superchips.

I've had a cat-back on order, and may even back out of that (since it's backordered).

so tucker, how do you like the superchips tuner? i havnt seen much review for it and am still not sure what to expect from it. but think that it would be a great addition. and thanks for the feed back ill just spend my money on other things for now. one more thing, ive read about doing viper rockers on the v8s, would those work on the 3.9 also?

Tyler, the rockers will work on the 3.9. if you shop around you can probably find them for about 60 bucks for 12pcs. to do your 6.

Sorry, Tyler for the tardiness - I was off the net for a day or so.

I don't have any complaints about the superchips. I'm running it in performance mode, burning 89 octane, and the truck does fine. It seems to not even turn a complete revolution when I crank it, and it's running. I don't have the constant downshifts going up the least little hill with it like I used to, either. That's probably the single biggest improvement, to me. I got a little gas mileage improvement, too. When I was running 87 octane, I'd get 17-18 on the road. Just moving to 89 improved that, and then the Superchips really improved it. A lot depends on how you drive your truck. Sometimes I just don't care or don't pay attention, and my mileage will drop because I'm not watching what I'm doing with my foot. Most of the time, I'm getting 18 around town and 21 or better on the road (depends on speed).

Out of the Harland Sharp roller rockers, I didn't notice much of an improvement, if any, with mileage - but it sure smoothed out the way the truck runs. I saw some gains on the upper end of the power band, from about 2500 rpm on up. It doesn't just lay down when I floor it now, but will get on up and go. From what I'm reading on here, some of these guys are buying Viper rockers on the cheap - but I don't know if they're rollers or not. Either way, the Vipers would be a lot cheaper than HS rollers.

The best bang for the buck was the bigger throttle body. A lot of guys just do a V8 throttle body - a lot cheaper than an F&B or a Fastman, and the end result is about the same.

so to do the viper rockers, is there anyhting i need specifically to bolt them on? and any one know if those are roller? also to do the v8 throttle body, will that just bolt up? and will the TB give me worse or better milage? and anyone have a recomendation for a cold air intake?

the viper rockers are not roller. just 1.7: ratio instaed of you current 1.6:1 ratio. a little more lift at the valve.they should just bolt right on. v8 TB will bolt right on. it won't affect mileage either way unless you keep your foot in it. personally, i wouldn't invest the 200-300 in a CAI. i just cut the front out of the stock airbox. if you want a set of Crower roller rockers, i have a brand new set in the box never installed. paid 350 for them.
