Subject: head gasket leak IP: Logged
Message: I have an 89 Dak conv. with a head gasket leak. the coolant level is fine the oil level and color is fine. My brother-in-law is a mechanic but is out of the country and unreachable until Christmas. I drive the truck in town less then 8 miles a day if at all and I have to. Will I make it till Christmas or do I have to have it done now? What will the cost be? Fevertree1

Message: It could be just condensation. If your not adding coolant, oil looks good and not fouling any spark plugs it probably not a head gasket. If you still think it is a head gasket K&N Block seal is the stuff to use. I have used it on many cars. it just a minor leak Im 100% sure it will seal it. I have seen it work on full blown head gaskets with water pouring out the exhaust pipes..lol But be sure to bypass heater core cuz it will surly stop it up.. K&N Block seal runs about 8 to 10 bucks at parts store..

Message: frvertree1, if you have oil on the bottom edge of the valve cover I think it would be the valve cover gasket, not the head gasket. Try going to a car wash and wash the oil off and watch it everyday to see just where the oil is coming from. I had a 65 Dodge with a slant 6 and it would get a little oil along the edge of the head and block, I would just wash it off every couple of weeks and never had a problem, I doubt if you are having any major problems. Like I said just keep an eye on it to see if it gets worst, and check your oil daily.
Again, I doubt if you are having a major problem.
Good Luck

Message: I agree with Dakota49. I had an 89 with the 3.9 and I was changing valve cover gaskets every year because they would leak oil.
