Subject: Wots this then ?

Hi,
Just bought a 93 V6 5 spd, it needs some work but I have a couple of questions:-

1.) There is a black dome type thing on the firewall on passenger side, this has a vac hose that I can't find a home for, the connector is just laying under the air cleaner. What is the canister thing and what should I do with the hose ?

2.) I thought this truck should have a check engine light, can't see one. There is a square compartment above the light switch where the check engine is on my jeep, does this mean it has been taken out or is this just a spare change holder?

Thanks for any help

mozzer, I'm a little confussed the only thing I see under the hood on the passenger side is the coil, and it should have a plug wire going to the dist. cap.
Yes you do have a "check eng." light. I don't have a 93, mine is an 88 but my manual shows a newer truck under the hood than mine. So I am just going by the photo.
Do you have an owners manual? that will show you where the check eng. light is, and what that hole in your dash is as well. Mine does have that, and I don't know what to use it for, I never thought of putting spare change there.
Good Luck

I found a 92 in the wreckers today and it had the same vacuum dome thing and I could see where it connects but I'd still like to know what it does, I'll keep digging.

I suppose the Check Engine could be in the instrument cluster, none of the gauges work, I'll try cleaning up the connector and see what I get.

Thanks for the input. I don't have an owners manual.

Cruise control vacuum reservoir? Usually it's on the driver's side.

Doesn't have cruise control or other such luxuries, which hopefully means there's less to go wrong.

ok i'm going from memory here from my old 95. I think the line comes out of the "softball" aka vacuum resevoir (bob lincoln is correct) and has a T connector.

I think one end connects to the HVAC controls as it's vacuum controlled. I think it connects to a hard plastic line behind the engine then back to rubber as it enters the firewall where the coolant lines do.

I think the other end runs to the cruise control.

I may be wrong, but it's definately for vacuum.

OK, thanks for the info I'll see what I can find. It looks like the Vac hose probably should be connected to the inlet manifold somewhere. I'll pull the air filter and have a look.

That 'vacuum' canister is a backup reservoir to keep your heater/defroster setting in the correct
position.
This is vacuum operated from the push button controls.
Check Engine light is in the 'cluster' at bottom
left of speedometer area.
