Its a funny story.... hah hah
ok, one night last weekend me and a buddy at a party got into talking about who's truck is better. He says to me "you truck is a piece of S dodge."
And i tell him atleats it aint a ford. So we get to talking some more and decided the only way to settle this is to go run em.
He has 2001 Ranger extended cab 4.0 4x4 on 31's with 3:92s' or 4:10's.
So we line em up on a back road thast like a 3 miles long and have some one count down.
3..... 2....1..... GO!
so i punch it after preloadin the tranny.
He takes off the line and gets a half truck lenght. darn 3:55's. and all i hear out of his pasenger side is "oooooooo your gettin your A$S whooped, and all i did was put up the pointer finger to say "just wait". sure enough i see him power shift his truck and i look at my rpm's and are only at 3500. As soon as he shifted into second and i was still in first just now getting my power. I said seeee ya. Nice to know you goodbye. It was all over from there a good truck to truck and a half.
then he claims his POS wieghs more cause its 4X4 on 31's and i told him that my truck wieghs 3900(before sheddin for the track) and he says "No way"
My question is, how much do 4X4 fords wieght?
still too this day he blames it on that, and i keep tellin him, lets go to the dump and get weighed

beat me a 4.0 ranger a few months back......it didnt even get me off the line!
and i have also lost to a 3.0 ranger =( just depends on the driver and what mods he has.......if they lose yu know they will always have an excuse.......if they call you truck a piece again just ask them if they want to race again!

OUch! Losing to a 3.0 has to hurt. I know because my parents just bought a 2001 Ranger, 3.0 extended cab, and I can't say I hate it, but after seeing and driving it, I still love my Dodge. Plus yes, my brother and I did race, and I spanked him w/o trying too awful hard at all.
Current mods: A MUFFLER. That's it. (For now.)
Future mods: Tonneau cover
Underdrive pulleys
Removal of clutch fan
K&N FIPK
17" rims
And much, much more...

I raced a 4x4 ranger on the interstate, I don't know if it was 4.0 or 3.0, I never passed him but I kept on his tail until my exit. I have never tried to pass anyone I race, I figure I'll let them turn the corner and find the cop...(evil grin).

hear hear Montag! That happened THIS MORNING on the way to work....some guy was just itching to prove that he could go faster than my truck. Which was ironic because I was half-asleep, in that sort of comfortable cruising state, not caring to go fast at all...but he heard my exhaust and said "Hah, I can go faster than THAT guy."
So he did - and promptly got caught by the cop tucked into the nook between two medians meeting up in the middle of the interstate. I LOVE seeing that. :)
Oh - he was driving a ricer (an older Honda Accord, dropped, fart tip, stickers, the whole 9 yards.) That made it even better.
Current mods: A MUFFLER. That's it. (For now.)

it may, and i mean MAY, be possible with a 5.9/RT
Even that's pushing it though.
If ya'll are ever in/around Tomball, TX and you see my green 01 Mazda B3k DualSport...

MAYBE a 5.9 R/T?
HAH, meybe if you did a little research you would knwo that the 4.7 5 speed is faster than the R/T if they run completely stock
and if rangers and mazdas are so good, why dont i see any of them pulling trailers, used at contruction work vehicles, and i have NEVER seen a ranger with a plow on it
the 3.9 is underpowered yes, but isnt the base model 4.0L 160 hp? or did they up that to 210?
whatever, if you want to keep dreaming and spouting off your mouth do a little looking into these things first
im not claiming to have a speed deamon, in fact almsot anything can beat my OLD 3.9, old premag running 125 hp, OH YEAH
whatever, my truck will prolly last longer than your ranger anyway
its been 13 years, 150,000 and it never needed tranny work or major engine work either
some some minor gaskets and seals here and there and thats about it
none of them needed replacing either, i jsut did it for maitnence reasons

first off screw mazdas they're ugly pieces of crap. i drive a 01 ranger edge stepside. 4.0L. i've never driven a dakota but they seem a bit more beefier and more powerful. im not disapointed in my ford though, i pulled my boat up a 15% grade in 3rd and never had to drop it into 2nd. i am disapointed in the gear ratios. it seems gutless after 60 mph. i think the new fords look better than dakotas(sorry boyz)note: SUPER BEE rangers are used all the time for work trucks look at the forest service,oh and you don't see fire departments running dodges either buddy, hemi or not! you have a legitimate point though i feel you.

I beat a 3000GT a few years ago with a 3.9 :) I had the rev limter bypassed so the fuel pump and egnition would work and I had that baby over 7 grand. If was freakin funny as heck, my headers where glowing cherry.... so just to be a bad a** I busted out a smoke and lit it up on the thing.

I use to kill Rangers in my pootieman 98 GMC Sonoma Reg cab with a hacked airbox, K&N air filter, flowmaster muffler with the 2.2L & some thick ass plug wires. For some reason that b*tch was a beast. I bought it from a salvage yard for a steal and I drove the piss outta it. I even killed a couple ricer hondas. I owned a 88 & 93 Ranger..all I can say is garbage. GMC or Dodge are much more dependable.

Santa cruz county fire uses dakotas, and the police/highway patrol have a few durangos...

Rangers handle like shi+... Everytime I have pulled something with them they seemed to crawl all over the road, as does an s-series truck. Atleast the Dakota stays put!

I had a ranger with a 4.0 5spd reg cab short bed. That truck pulled harder than most people expected. Rangers dont handle very well and hydroplane easy. I hydroplaned a few times in mine even with new tires. Eventually I hydroplaned off the side of the road and flipped the truck onto a tree. When I went back to the ford dealership the salesman told me that his son had hydroplaned and totalled four rangers.
On the other hand my dakota handles very well and feels twice as surefooted as the ranger. My friend has a 2001 ranger 2wd exdcab auto. and I smoke him all the time in my 3.9 5sd dak
