 Subject: Front Wheel Bearings 4x4

I have a 2000 Dodge 4x4 3.9. I just hit 84,000 and the owners manual says to inspect front wheel bearings and change if neccesary. Are these checkable? Someone told me the 4x4s dont need to be replaced because they are sealed?

Yes they are sealed bearings, but they should be checked for exssive play. and if they do have play, for example jack up one of the front tires and try to move the wheel up and down, and see if it will turn easily. Any play, or grinding, or roughness while turning I would replace them, or if only one is bad replace it.
