Subject: Fuel System IP: Logged
Message: Hi,
I have a 1995 Dakota with a 3.9L V6. Recently I was driving down the road and it sputtered a bit and died. Now it will not start at all. I suspect the fuel system, but I'm not sure wher to start my search. Normally, I would start with the fuel filter, but unfortunately there is not a "normal" filter on the thing. Can anyone offer suggestions?
Thank you.

Message: Do you hear the fuel pump when you first turn on the key? don't try to start, just turn the key to the on posistion and try to listen for a short burst of the fuel pump. You may have to get close to the fuel tank and have someone turn the key for you. If you don't hear the pump, check all the fuses to see if any are blown.
That's all I can think of.
Good Luck

Message: Oh yeah, one more thing, you can try putting a little gas down the throttle body to see if it will start or run for a few seconds.
Good Luck

UPDATE...
I was able to verify that there was no gas getting through. After beating on the gas tank a few times it started right up. The thing quit on me again this morning, but again after pounding on the tank it started right up again. Any further suggestions on this? It appears that the pump is working at least part of the time.
Thank you,
Gale

Message: the pump is shot replace it before you realy get
stranded somewhere
Get a Master replacement around $200 $250 auto
zone sells the carter pumps
the master comes with new pump, regulator, filter,
and gas guage sending unit this is the only way
to go considering you need to drop the tank to
replace it why not replace all parts not just the
pump itself
keeping the tank full will also cool the pump more
and it may work for a while
