Message: my steering seems to be a bit tight when turning right. had it aligned and balljoints checked. tire pressure good, power steering good. refusing to believe that everything was ok (even though the mechanic said it was) i pulled one of my outter tie rod ends off to check it. i just loosened it and popped it up. it moves but man it sure does feel tight, kind of grindy like as well, like metal on metal. how tight should a tie rod end be? there is grease in it too but in my opinion i don't think these things should be quite so tight and wonder if they might be causing some of my trouble. i put them back on but can't get any play in them when connected. they're a little bit hard to pivot back and forth when connected as well. About $40 for new ones but then i'll have to get an alignment which is about another $60 so around $100 but hesitate to do it because i hate just throwing money into something and not have it be the problem.

Message: Are they grease able? If not you could always put you in a greasezert and then grease them. On my truck they were nogreaseable so i drill and tapped in some new zerts now i can grease everything at oil change time like in the old days..lol

Message: ccman, try going to the parts store and check out a new one and see what they are like. I think a new one will be pretty tight, but should be smooth when you move it, not rough.
Good Luck

Message: yup, that's exactly what i did. went to the parts store and checked new ones. the new ones didn't feel any different than mine. so at this point in time i'm NOT replacing tie rod ends. i jacked up my tire pressure over the weekend as well. turns out i was running a bit lower than i thought. I was at 32psi, i ramped up to about 38psi and much improvement. turns out the stupid tire guage i have is shot! probly dropped it too many times!
i didn't know you could put grease joints in non greaseable joints. is this hard to do? mine are not greaseable. guess you could always pull them off and pack some grease in from the bolt side of the boot as well. either way i guess!
