Subject: 98 trans slips IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 dakota and when ever I make a sharp turn to the left my transmission will slip when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I will brake, turn the wheel, give it gas, RPMs jump up to approx 2500 to 3000, 2nd gear will catch right after I drive straight again. What is odd about this problem is it never happens when I turn right. I just changed the trans fluid and diff fluid. I was wondering what the problem might be.

Message: Did you add friction modifier to the differential oil when you changed it (or use the oil that has it in it already)? Sounds like your limited slip differential is slipping. Usually happens when you turn left from a slow start.

Message: Same thing happens with my truck, but only when it's cold, or not up to temp. I wondered if it was the diff, but I have experienced it going straight-from a stand still accelerating at WOT.
I'd like an answer too, the tranny in my truck only had 30k on it when I got it.

Message: I did add the friction modifier to the diff. It usually happens when I'm turning at 20 mph.
