Subject: Jet Stage 2 Chip IP: Logged
Message: Since the performance computer is no longer manufactured for my 95 I was wondering if a jet stage 2 chip would be worth buying. Anyone know the difference between the chip and performance computer?

Message: I am running a stage 2 chip with my setup
Yes they help no big 25hp gains like they claim
more like 10hp
The best thing about them is they help gas mileage
you will notice an improvement from 2500 on up
mostly but they also help off idle low end this
you will notice at highway crusing speeds
o/d lockup
all the stage 2 chips showed 1 to 3mpg gains
on the trucks with all the mods done
with the chip and all the mods give it time to
learn around 500 miles it should run great
it takes longer the farther you are from the
stock tables in the computer
No big gains but some nice help

Message: ElmerFudd,
I hate to be a me-too about the Stage 2 jet chip, it makes a noticeable different and as Larry say can help gas mileage. Since there is no performance pcm for a 97 dakota v6 or Superchips, it only gives 2 options. I can get a custom flash or use the Jet Chip. I guy know that has a 99 Dak noticed a difference of 15 hp using a Gtech not as good a dyno.

92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.

Message: The jet chips do work
I have found most who say they do nothing either
had other issues with there trucks or bought
a non vehicle specific chip from ebay
The chips also help more on the moded trucks to
richen the fuel and a small timing advance the
mods become even more noticeable
When you do power mods they should be noticeable
or you have something wrong

Message: Okay, ordered the stage 2 chip. Another question, I had a 180 thermostat in and changed it back to stock 195. Kept getting cold engine code. Write up says stage 2 chip works well with mods and 180 thermostat. Well, I got the mods but I don't plan on changing the thermostat. Any thoughts?

Message: you'll more than likely suffer with pinging. can i ask what brand tstat did you use? i had problems with whatever manufacturer Autozone uses. you could get another 180 or possibly 185 and try that.

Message: Don't remember but I got it at Autozone. That was about the most frustrating job I've ever done with the location of the tstat. Must have drop the screws six times only to have it leak and have to redo it.

Message: It will be fine with the 195
most of the stage 2 chips are running on 87 a few
89 oct with no ping
As I said the chips are not that agresive and I
have seen 12 and 15 hp gains with the chips on the
V6

Message: Received the Jet Stage 2 Chip and installed. Simple install, now for some breakin mileage. First impression is that the engine seems to run smoothly.

Message: Yes the chip will hold a better air fuel ratio
it tricks the comp into checking the ratio more
often than stock
It should feel smother and stronger because of
that
When you gett on it you should notice it around
2500rpm the tone will change, at 3000 there will
be a very noticeable increase in power if not
somthing is wrong, bad sensors most of the time
they work from off idle but do the most at 2500
on up
If you had a scanner under hard excelleration
watch the totle advance, modual advance and you
will see it holds 2 to 3 more degrees advance
You can feel it and see it on a scanner how can
people say they do nothing

Message: I plan on putting about 500 miles on the truck this week which should give it some good breakin time. Around town I do see improvement, it's smoother and feels like increased power when I get on it. I think it was worth it and hopefully will compliment my other mods. Haven't had any pinging with 87 octane either. I'm still experimenting with my air filter and gas mileage. The K&N for a 95 sits on the TB and sucks in hot engine air but has good flow. The stock filter has less flow but the intake hose allows in cleaner and cooler air. I'm trying to figure out which gives the best performance and best gas mileage.

Message: Try to find the Mopar computer if possible, I had the stage 2 jet chip, and found the mopar performance computer on ebay for $100 a few years ago, so I sold the Jet 2 and Wow, big difference. It won't work on all years though.
