Subject: Bumper Hitch...? IP: Logged
Message: I just sold my primary tow vehicle. I don't have a hitch on the 99 Dak and rather than dish out the $150 or so for a frame mount hitch, I want to get a bumper hitch for it. Does anyone know where I can get a bumper hitch for a 99 Dak w/ a rear step bumper? I'd rather not drill if I don't have to. Thanks,
Olindo

Message: Searay, I tried that but the ball ends up being way too high for the trailer (don't want the boat to slide off). I wanted and 'under bumper hitch' so I can use a ball mount that puts the ball in a lower position so I can safely hitch my boat trailer.

Message: the only way to get that is a receiver hitch. unless you want to make you own bumper mounting brackets to drop the bumper down but that would not be cost effective.

Something like this would probably work for you.

Message: i guess you could use that if you wanted to drill holes in the bumper to mount it and pull anything under 1000 lbs. just because that thing is rated for 3500 lbs doesn't mean anything. you're still mounting it to the bumper that is only rated for 1000 lbs.

Message: Thanks all...found what I needed (once again this site comes thru)...and yes if I wanted to tow >1000# I'd pony up the bucks for a traditional class 3 hitch...but since my sailboat/trailer combo is about 750...I think I'll be ok.
