Message: I know the feeling. My stock one was chirping badly, so I replaced it with a Hayden OEM replacement. It was engaged 90% of the time...even in the dead of winter when the engine was stone cold. So I took that clutch back and got another one (same brand), and it does the same thing. So...is it a bad part, or something else? There's not much else it could be, I guess. It's pretty easy to change it though.
Remove shroud.
Remove serpentine belt.
Hold lower pulley with tool (buy/rent/make one).
Turn large nut on fan counter-clockwise.
Off it comes!
Remove fan from clutch (4 bolts).
Replace

Message: Mine is an 88, I took my fan off the hub, put the hub back on. Mine wasn't running a lot, just with cooler weather coming on I wanted to see if it would warm up any faster without it. As a result, I am getting better fuel milage as well.
Its not running hot either, so I am going to wait until next summer before I put it back on, if I don't have any problems with it heating up, I'll leave it off. Since I rebuilt the engine I haven't had any cooling system problems anyway.
Good luck
