I hope somone can help. I was backing a trailer and had my wheels cranked all the way to the right. All of a sudden the motor pulled down and I lost my power steering. Can someone tell me what they think might have happened?

your steering never came back? the cheapest easiest thing to do first would be the serpentine belt. what shape is it in? the pump is in high pressure mode when wheels are turned all the way to the stops so if the belt is slipping you'll loose power steering.

next cheapest route would be make sure all steering lines aren't leaking, mainly your high pressure hose, the one coming off the bottom of the pump. you could have air in their too but not likely unless you have a leak somewhere. next i would do a flush of the system. make sure you bleed it out thoroughly of air.

if none of those fix it then sad to say it's probly your pump itself. i'm gonna bet your belt is slipping.

if your steering never came back it would almost have to be the pump. i'm no expert but i've been battling with my power steering lately and these are all things i've done. i think i finally have it straightened out.

theres lots of seals in that pump, one could have possibly blew out. then theres the worse case scenario. the rack. it has lots of seals in it too. keep checking for leaks now. i don't see how backing a trailer would blow any seals other than the wheels turned all the way but i doubt it. i would investigate the steering pump first and all those suggestions before the rack.
