Subject: IAC sensor IP: Logged
Message: so i'm cleaning my throttle body tonight and the IAC sensor and replaced throttle body gasket. I like to do this 1-2 times a year because it helps with how my truck runs.
I'm putting everything back together and i accidentally dropped the IAC sensor. I think it may have landed on the plunger because when i picked it up and looked at it it was definately moved in. I think it may be slightly bent too.
Sure enough, my idle is about 1800 rpm's when sitting still. It will go down to normal then it will raise back up. It just keeps doing this. I'm pretty the IAC is toast now! Is this a pretty common symptom of the IAC sensor?
Please let me know, anyone!

Message: well the IAC was shot. i took it off and the whole plunger assembly popped off. the screw mechanism must have snapped or something when i dropped it. i think it was on it's way out even before i dropped it because i was having idling problems. it runs nice now with the new one in and the newly cleaned out Throttle body.

Message: lol...yeah dude...I think even if it had been perfectly fine when you pulled it out, dropping it right on the plunger would have done it in. From what I've read, simply twisting or pulling on it while cleaning it can break it, and dropping it would be much harder on it.
