Subject: 06 Dakota Burning Oil?? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2006 Dakota with 16,000 miles I just bought from a Dodge dealership. Its got the v6 3.7L engine. It is burning around a quart of oil every 1000 miles and is blowing quite a bit of black smoke out of the exhaust when I start the vehicle. The dealership is telling me this is normal. Im raising the BS flag. What do yall think?

Message: 06 with that low mileage means it was most likely parked and broke. It don't sound good thats a lot of oil. There should be some racket I would think. The only simple stuff is loose oil plug or filter, or even a hole in the oil pan. Look for drips or in your case pools on the ground. I wish I was a little more encouraging but at least it can be a grat truck. Keep reading here and you will see some dandys. Let us know. Toby WD40

Message: Advice take to another dealership try again with your problem your have powertrain warranty with it 3 yrs 36,000 miles everything covered afterwards $100.00 dedeuctable to pay which isn't your case, if you get another run around of bull$hit I would call DCX headquarters phone number should be in with your owners manual unless someone removed it before you got the truck the number is in one of the pamplets that is included in every car/truck/van purchase.Check your obvious issues before going to another dealership and NO! truck should be using a quart of oil every 1,000 miles in my eyes my 02' uses a 1/2 to 1 qt. if any 2,500 miles sometimes can go whole 3,000 miles without using any oil

Message: i agree with pete. that thing shouldn't be using or leaking any oil and the dealership should make it good. no matter who you go to, the same delaer or another dealer or DCX, don't lose your cool with them but be firm. as they say, "you can catch more flies with honey."

Message: I think there is actually a TSB for the 3.7L in 06 and 07. I know a guy who had the same problem, but he also started to lose power. It turned out to be #3 cylinder and #5 cylinder were dead. I think he said the valve springs were weak as well. He got a new engine after he raised hell about his 06 with 17K on it already having engine problems. DC knows of the problem, but since it is not safety related, will not issue a recall.
If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks...well...it needed to be replaced anyway.
