Subject: sensor in distributor IP: Logged
Message: I forgot what it's called, but I have checked the ASD relay, the wire splice, and have no voltage going to either wire on my coil,(connector), on the bottom. Green/white stripe and some other color. No fuel and I checked fuse and fuel pump relay, theyr'e good. So would that lead me to the relay inside the distributor?
1992 3.9 2wd auto stock for now. I am doing this the hard way no manuals. Does the Haynes manual have wiring diagrams, if not which one does? Thanks whoever answers, WD40

Message: The sensor in the distributor is actually the pickup plate. It's a black disk that has a 3-wire connector running to it. You can get to it by removing your distributor cap and rotor. Then you should see it. Had mine self-destruct afew months ago. lol

Message: Warren if your trucks like Larry's and some of the others on here , it's a wonder you all havn't blown sky high, HA!. I would be a danger to myself if mine was like that , Idon't have the reaction time I used to have. I would be chasin my own truck down the road. If I can just get to the distributor I can check it out. Thanks
Easy Fix was that the wiring harness you were talking about. WD40

Message: The sensor in the distributor is actually the Camshaft Position sensor. It works on the Halo effect and controls the timing of the injectors. Be really carefull here. I have been chasing a timing problem for weeks with my Distributor. It works on what is called a Halo Effet. The dist has a 1/2 moon brass ring that when the Distributor turns passes between the magnet in the Camshaft Position sensor. VERY TOUCHY..
Have you checked the Crankshaft Position sensor?
It is located on the passenger side of the Mtr. Down the side and kind of close to the to the EGR valve area. Mine self distructed a while back and the trk wont do nothing!!

Message: Can you check either of these with a volt/ohmmeter? Camshaft Position Sensor or Crankshaft Position Sensor. I'm getting no fire or voltage to the coil and no fuel. Which one would you guess it is. There are 1,000 sensors and only so much money. If I cahange the one in the distributor I'll probably have to change cap, rotor, wires too. I'd like to be able to check them if possible. We don't have an autozone or anything comparable. One parts store and he'll probably have to order the part if it's not Chrysler only. Then I'll have to drive 1 1/2 hours to the nearest one on Monday. Thanks Guys Toby

Message: toby, did you try checking for any codes? you may be able to ohm out the CPS(crankshaft Position sensor) and the Hall Effect sensor in the dist. a haynes could probably help you on that.
do you hear the fuel pump come on at all when you turn the key on?
it could be one problem causing both no spark and no fuel or it could be two separate problems.

Message: Daddio It gave no codes and other than the starter I don't hear anything ,do you hear it at the fuel tank, I don't even know where the fuel pump is. Also if you got a minute is the camshaft position sensor also called a pick-up coil. I had my wife go to autozone 1 1/2 hours away to get a crankshaft position sensor, they said the pick-up coil was related to it and went in the distributor. I also got new cap, rotar and wires and I'm broke. They had no listings for a camshaft position sensor. Thanks

Message: fuel pump is in the tank. one thing you can do is put a press gage on the test port of the fuel rail. turn the key on and see if it pressures up.

Message: Ba-Fon sounds pretty Daddio those other words come a little short. I live in the Ba-Fons. We have a parts store and they actually were only a bout $15 bucks higher but half the stuff has no warranties and you know how things are made these days, bad out of da box. Thanks Daddio I live in Brady, Texas near the center, Do you live near the Gulf.
