Does it hurt anythind to block the EGR with a solid gasket as I have heard on some of the posts? If not what do you do with the transducer after you have block the EGR? Thanks

yup

Many motors get better mileage with the EGR working.

Toby, the EGR helps cool the combustion chamber and lower Nox, what that means is you can use a little more advance in the timing and better gas mileage. If you block it off, it probably won't hurt anything as long as it doesn't start pinging. If you block off the EGR don't worry about the transducer, the engine won't know the difference unless it pings. Then the computer may retard the timing if the knock sensor sence's pinging.
I prefer to have the EGR working if possible because of the better gas mileage/more timing.
I have made EGR block off plates and used them myself though. Try it and see what happens, sometimes the engine will run a little better if the Egr is blocked off. If the valve is stuck open, it will run rough, because you will have a vacuum leak, as well as putting exhaust back into the combustion chamber at idle. I hope that answers your question, if not ask again and I will try to help out if I can.
Good Luck

Thanks Dakota 49 I think I'll just change it. I sure don't want to give them anymore for gas than I am.

dakota49, DC didn't use "knock sensors" on the 3.9. if memory serves me, it was only the 4.7's maybe 3.7's that used knock sensors.

Even the 4.7 doesn't use knock sensors; unless it's the HO version.

Ok guys, I screwed up on the knock sensor, I was thinking all the Manufactures used knock sensors.
I was wrong I will spend all day Saturday at Springfield Mo. looking at cars I can't afford.
Its the Fall Street Machine Nationals this friday, saturday, and sunday. Its pretty cool lots of neat cars. I plan on taking lots of pic's to drool over long after the show is over.
Thanks for getting me straight. Like I said before owning an antique I don't study about the newer stuff enough.
Good Luck to everyone

The EGR is very important

raising thr cyl temps with a bad valve can do
a lot of things

polution test will never pass

that in conjuction with a lazy o2 sensor can
destroy the converter

Higher cyl temps also cause piston ping and
can cause more damage

bad egr can also effect idle quility

running the cyls hot also decresses eficancy
and will kill your gas mileage by severly
effecting air/fuel ratio's

Theres even more

Is all this crap going on worth a part that costs
under $100

The transducer and valve come as a matched and
calibrated set never replace 1 with out the other
most will not even sell them seporate

don't block it replace it

Larry, is this the same one that went on the rant about the EGr being a stupid unnessesary part that can be blocked and keep my money?? which i took that advice and blocked it and reemed the CAt as you said was fine too. I am fine with the first one and now have a problem i didnt have before, but to hear you now say. Buy it it is an inexpensive part and a nessesary part. what TF happened to the idiots in Detrit that made them in 92 and stopped in 95. Holycow talk about.........whatever. I have never ever seen such a complete about face.. and i took your advice on how well and passionate your arguement was..go read it and see who feels like the idiot then..

The EGR valve would last for 5 plus years, its just the crappy diaphram unit attached to it,they seem to melt internaly from exaust gas heat,so the last time I went to buy a new EGR I also picked up a foot of 3/16 copper tube, bent it around a bic lighter a few times to make a condensor that cools down the heat charge going into the diaphram unit and presto, 3 years and counting
