 Subject: Speedometer Stuck at 120mph

Help......
I just finished rebuilding my engine after bending a rod at # 2 cylinder. and reconnecting all and starting her up the speedometer is stuck at 120. When I turn it off and even after the battery is disconnected it stays at 120.
What the heck.........

That happened to me when I got some radiator fluid on terminals. I used a rag by accident that had fluid on it to wipe the terminals. It reversed the charge and spiked it. Remained the same way too after I disconnected it. I used a terminal cleaner and it went back down after reconnecting it. I don't know if that could be it but it's worth trying. After you clean it should go down when you start it if this is your problem.

Somebody else had this problem recently... drive it around for a few and see if it resets itself. The people who posted in that post said after driving it around for a lil bit, it returned to normal.

Great Idea since removing the head allowed coolant to flow everywhere.
Which terminals are you refering to .

The battery terminals. Take off the positive and negative cables and clean the terminals.

Gee, my 88 only goes to 85. I have buried it a few times....on a closed road course...of course.

mine did the same thing
disconnect the battery
turn the key on for 40 seconds
connect battery and it should reconnect with the computer........other wise you have a bad speed sensor..........hope it helps
