Subject: Back up lights turn on when I brake
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey I have a '97 Dakota 2 wheel drive, whenever I turn the headlights on or just the fogs my back up lights turn even when I use the driver side blinker. But when i have the lights of during the day they work fine. I was thinking that maybe i have a bad ground and possibly reground somewhere. I have replaced every light in the truck and this is still persisting. Any chance Im not the only one with this problem, the Dakota only has 68k miles. I would really appreciate it because I don't want to get pulled over again:-)

DO YOU HAVE THE CORRECT BULBS IN CORRECT SPOT BE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE A BRAKE LIGHT IN YOUR REVERSE LIGHT WHICH IS A DOUBLE FILIMENT ONE IS FOR ONE RUNNING AND OTHER FOR BRAKE YOU ONLY NEED A SINGLE FILIMENT BULB FOR REVERSE, YOU MIGHT HAVE UNSOLVE ELECTRICAL ISSUE TO HARD TO SAY AT THIS POINT CHECK THESE ISSUES THAN GO TO YOUR WIRING SORRY FOR THE CAPS...

Bobby97, I have seen a lot of strange things happen when a ground goes bad, the first place I would check is the grounds, if they look like crud, then remove the bolt, or screw that is holdiing the wire in place and use sand paper, or a wire brush to clean the connection and reinstall.
In the mean time I would remove the back up lights until you get it fixed so you don't get any more tickets.
Good Luck
