Subject: Broke 25mpg IP: Logged
Message: I was running shell 89 and getting 22 to 24mpg
one day I put 10 gals of mobil 89 in and got
24.76mpg
back to shell 23 24mpg so I ran my tank down below
1/4 filled with mobil 89 just to see and I got
25.47mpg
was it the gas it would seam so but why
I have only gottin above 25mpg once before 25.8
from milwaukee to my home very hot day
I have been getting 23 24 all summer until I used
the mobile gas
my last 3 checks have all been just above 24mpg
and 90% high way I hit 25.47
I have a few customers that have hit 27mpg
122,000 on motor and truck 95 4x4 all the mods
port match intake devider removed stock runners
cleand and polished heads
jet 2 chip
halo plugs
all mods and boltons
maybe its finaly broke in LOL
If these trucks are tuned right the mileage is
there 90% of my customers with the V6's are all
getting over 20mpg the other 10% will never get
there because of there heavy foots
My nephew just got a 06 with the 4.7 we put a
K&N and a flowmaster duel system and he got 21mpg
was getting 19mpg a 2mpg gain from just cold air
and less restrictive exhaust this is a 4 door
crew cab 4x4
I have been seeing the 3.7's with just cold air
and exhaust are getting around 22mpg we set 1 up
with the modded hughes engines throttle body and
he was hitting 24mpg
However these trucks were also intensly checked
every sensor working right if not it was replaced
The new 3.7 is not a bad little motor
The only thing on the newer trucks was the torque
managment sucks below 3000rpm there dogs the 4.7
is the worst that and the trans shifts out way to
fast unless you really get on it
But there is a box out now for the new 5 speed
with a laptop you can set the trans up anyway
you like it $500 and it plugs right in to factory
plugs
The Dakota is still a great truck
This from a dye hard mopar guy who was very pissed
when they discontinued the 3.9 now after working
with the new motors I am gaining respect for them

Message: Hey, Larry, I took my 92 Dak CC 4WD with cap to the Carlisle show this year, as my Daytona was down for repairs. Half of the 430-mile trip the speed limit was 65, half was 55 mph. I ran 3 tankfuls for the round trip and got 22.3, 21.1 (around town at the show) and 25.1 mpg on the return ride (I took a more level route).
This truck is ALL stock and averages 20.2 mpg over the last 45K miles that I have owned it. It now has 169K miles. So apparently you can get nearly the same fuel economy WITHOUT all these mods.

Message: My truck stock (and nearly stock) never got above 20mpg all highway and rarely would pull 16mpg mixed driving when I drove it without a lead foot.
After changing plugs, wires, o2 sensors, thermostat, diff. fluid, cap, rotor, superchips tuner, etc. (btw...I had done a complete tune-up bout 20-30k miles earlier, and never saw any significant mileage gains out of it)...I noticed major improvements. I can't say what stuff was the most effective in increasing those mods...and quite frankly I didn't care...just as long as my mileage went up. I'm pretty impressed with my lil V6 now. For a truck, it does pretty good in my opinion.
I recently averaged over 23mpg highway driving approx 62mph on the highways and 78 mph on the interstate...yes, I speed a lil, no need to lecture me on it. City driving is consistently 17-19mpg even when i decide to romp on it on occasion.
Anyway...the way I see it is, you may not NEED those mods to get that kinda mileage, but if those mods tend to help mileage...or even if they keep it the same, why not do em? Can't complain about having more power/torque, right?

Message: I've noticed that I get better mileage running 89 octane vs 87 with my Dakota ( 97 no mods, haven't tuned it up since I bought it a year and a half ago -166k on it )
I get 16-17 on 87, 17-19 with the 89.

Message: Larry - sometime I'd like to talk to you about my 02 QC 4.7L V8 4x4.
I have a mostly stock truck. I have the halo plugs (going to pull them this weekend and check color) and a k&N drop in filter - hey it was 25% off at advance a month ago. I also have a tool box with tools and leer fiber glass shell. I average 16.5-17mpg. this is up .5-1mpg since switching away from mobile 1 to supertech oil (wal-mart brand). And I'm rolling on michelin ltx ms 265/75/16 tires.
I have 82k miles, i removed the factory denso o2 sensors and replaced with the ntk.
I recently had a tranny flush done and changed diff fluid. It seems to have gained me a little in the mpg category. I won't know until i run a couple tanks of fuel though.
I think i can get to 20mpg combined easy enough. I don't do many long highway trips anymore. But i do alot of long trips on north ga mountain roads.
i think i have a sensor gone wrong. My truck idles high (1500-2000 spikes rpm spikes) when cold in park. If it's cold and i shift to drive or reverse, the idle is lower.

Message: Shell gas ain't what it used to be.
To top it all off there was atime when an additive they were using actually damaged the
fuel tank level sender 'sensor' . Chrysler gave them sh...t and got it fixed.
Exxon or Mobil is better all the way thru.

Message: I live in Northwest Arkansas, and the only thing we can get around here is gas that has been refined by Texaco, it comes to a big tank yard and is stored there until it gets sent to the stations. Everyone has different prices, but the gas is mostly the same. I have tried Wal-Mart, Shell, and easy mart, all the same gas mileage, I use 89 and get 20-22 miles unless it gets real cold, in that case I let it warm up before I drive it.
We also have a 70 MPH speed limit on our major highways, and I am only 33 miles from Oklahoma on the Ok turnpike the speed limit is 75. I'm amazed because even with a 75 MPH speed limit the Ok. Highway patrol is always busy stopping people for speeding. Even with the gas price of gas as high as it is. Go figure.

Message: Every truck is a little differant
The 25.8 I spoke of was back in 1997 perfictly
stock truck at the time around 30,000 at the time
Heres the thing thow it never even came close to
that ever again 17 to 19mpg was my stock milage
all the time reg mid or prem gas always the same
17 to 19mpg
why I got the 25.8 that day I have never figured
out
now I get 23 to 25mpg all the time
Most of the 2 wheel obd1 trucks were all above
20 mpg my 93 V6 5 speed got 22 23mpg my 94 2
wheel auto trans got the same around 22
In dec 1994 I kept seeing this 4 wheel same green
color and stripe at the dealer one day I stoped
in and bought it at 200 miles I drove it to
milwaukee and it got only 14 to 15 mpg that
sucked I only had it a week at this time
Heres another thing 2 people can drive the same
vehicle but one will always get better mileage
driving habits also play a big part in mpg
My brother and his wife 03 jeep he drives gets
25 26mpg she drives and it drops to 21 22 mpg
The mods are upto the indavidual if they want to
do them I know they help mpg and the more power
is fun I love driving my dak and make excuses to
the old lady just to go for a ride LOL
Its like buety is in the eye of the beholder
All the trucks we have moded have never had any
complaints
One thing all your sensors need to work right
or you will never get good mileage I have seen
new trucks with bad sensors they are off but will
not always trip a code a guy needs to drive the
truck normaly and watch the operation of the
sensors just doing a scan for codes wont cut it
here check from cold start to operating temp
and while driving
fuel presure also plays a big roll in mpg 40psi
min the higher the presure the better the fuel
atomizes I run 50 to 55 psi holly pump and
external regulator adjustible

Message: Shoe, this is Dakota49, I am in Rogers, just north of Fayeville. I540 is our biggest hiway around here. I know where Paris is, I have been through there a few times. I drive a truck for a living. I mostly go to Dallas Tx, or Kansas city.
I enjoy truck driving, but after 29 1/2 years, its starting to get a little old. I have driven trucks in 4 countries, and 2 continets though.
I can say whitout a doubt, I prefer American trucks to European junk. Ok maybe I'm being a little mean, but the Mercedes I drove had a lot of stupid things straight from the factory.
I have said too much so I'll go for now.
