Message: Had a water leak. Thought it was the water pump. Replaced it without checking anything else. Water still leaking down by the crank. But I have another problem. While my shadetree mechanic was installing the water pump he strip a bolt. Is it possible that he put a long bolt in a short hole and drilled a hole into the block?
Everything is hooked up except for the fan. When you go to start it all the pulleys on the front of the engine turn but it dosen't seem like the crankshaft is turning. It ran fine before the water pump was put on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Message: Billy, The water pump on the engine bolts into a piece that bolts to the block, so its possible that the front cover is leaking. There are 2 freeze plugs on each side of the crank, so the water could be running close to the crank.
I doubt if your friend put in a longer bolt that it would go through the block, if it was too long it would bottom out and stick out too far.
When you say the pullies turn but you don't think the crank is turning, that's strange because the crank is what turns the pullies. Do you mean it won't run now? Just changing the water pump shouldn't keep it from running.
What year is it? How many miles?
