Message: was the a/f ratio off but the plugs you pulled
were tan from before your o2 went bad
The FR5 is 1 range colder
did you gap them
obd1 .035
obd2 .040
go to walmart $0.99 get a set of champs and I bet
they run wite also you have other probs its not
the plugs
what ever you do don't get a bosch or any other
o2 sensor get a factory organal NGK NTK is what
was installed at the factory I have seen this so
many times 5 to 20,000 miles these crap o2 sensors
lean out the air/fuel ratio
On a stock motor no mods its not as noticeable
because your running so close to stock computer
table with a moded motor its very noticeable
You can unplug the o2 on a stock motor and it will
still run fairly well from the default tables
with a moded motor it will run like crap
ngk.com get the right sensor the case and the vent
design are that way for a reaso if it don't look
the same I would question its use

Message: still factory o2's in truck. have 76,000 miles on it. get great MPG around 20. No codes either. i know o2's can go bad with no codes but i'm just not willing to spend the money for 4 sensors and not even know for sure if they're bad, know what i mean? Only thing done to truck is flowmaster muffler and straight out the back with dual tip. I was trying to get even better MPG with the NKG's but like Larry says i probly not modded enough to get the full effect.

Message: hook you truck to a scanner and watch the o2 voltage. I change mine out around 78k miles.
I noticed they were switching slow and not very smooth. I scanned my truck again after changing to the ngk sensors and it swiches better (more smooth curve). I grabbed data with my laptop and did midpoint and it was lean as larry pointed out.
larry - My 02 QC came with denso. Oh, it's california emissions if that matters.

Message: the o2 sensors can get lazy not work properly and
still not trip a code
recomended replacement is 60 to 80,000
but now here again I have seen them go bad in
5,000 miles and have seen some run well over
200,000 miles
There are a lot of additives out there that will
coat the o2 and mess them up burning oil or
running rich will also help destroy an o2
If your truck is running fine don't worrie about
replacing them the best way to check is just a
simple look at the plugs a light tan sandy color
and your good to go white or black no good
A good operating sensor will step befor it
flip flops
4.8
3.8
2.8
1.8
flip flop
.1 to .99 1.02
.2 .3 to .99
within that range
this should only take around 2 to 3 min from a
cold start
example of a bad sensor but this will not trip
the light
4.8
4.8
4.8
BAM
flip flop
this is a bad sensor
The bosch o2's would show good but slow operation
checking with an occiliscope would show this
wave form to be way off from what the comp is
looking for but not detectible with a scanner
Its the most important and also sometimes the
hardest to to determin if its bad
If in dought throw it out
