Subject: Slight rough start IP: Logged
Message: I have a 01 dakota 3.9 101,000 miles that for about 15 seconds will run really rough at a cold start up. Back of truck will shake. I was thinking a small vacuum leak but cannot locate anything. I have replaced the TPS sensor, IAC valve, new plugs, wires, distrubutor coil, pcv valve and hose and Vacuum lines to the leak detector box. Cleaned the throttle body and replaced the IAT sensor. The rough idle used to be really bad, lasted at least 15 minutes but it now down to about 15 seconds. What could be causing this? Should I change the 02 sensors? Or could it be a map sensor? I even used Seafoam through the brake booster line which helped the idle but this still occurs on startup
Thanks for any help

Message: have your battery load tested. especially if you still have the oirignal battery. a weak battery will still start the truck and do that on a cold start until the alt brings the voltage back up after starting the truck.

Message: I replaced the battery two years ago with a 72 month battery. I will have it tested though to make sure.

Message: hey it doesn't cost anything to have it tested. if it tests ok, check/clean both battery connections and grounds.
but for your symptoms, about 15 seconds rough idle on a cold start, my money is on the battery. my '00 truck still has the original battery. on some mornings it will do the exact same thing. i'm just waiting for the battery to die. i have now power acc. and no auto trans thats probably why my battery is still going.
