Mine is an 88 and it takes a 32mm
88 3.9 4X4 5 speed

I know mine is a 4X4, but there is a good chance that the 2 wheel drive is the same.

Thanks for the reply, Dakota49, but the '97 may be a bit different. I can tell you that it's about 1 7/16", which works out to about 36.5mm.
Maybe someone w/ a '97 who knows will weigh in. I hope!
