Subject: A/C Noise IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 CC, V6 5-speed manual. A few weeks back I hit a deer on the interstate, doing about 75 mph. Did about $3500 in damage and the body shop had to replace the condenser and receiver-drier and a valve in the ac system. They replaced the radiator and fan too & recharged the AC. Now the AC is ice cold, works great except one thing. There is a noise like a howling or whistling sound I can hear only inside the cab. It happens when the compressor cycles on. I hear no abnormal noises under the hood. I have looked and listened as much as I can but can not find the noise. Sounds like a howling wind. I once drove a rental car that had a whistling noise when the AC was set to maximum cold, but my Dak has this noise no matter where the temp is set. The body shop did a great job so I don't think it's anything they did. Any ideas?
All help is greatly appreciated...
Jimmy

Message: Bad compressor. That's what my original compressor sounds like in my 92 Daytona with 278K miles. I just ignore it, shows no signs of seizing up.

Message: Thanks Bob. My AC is cold but the noise seems to be getting worse now. I hear a bad grinding noise when I turn off the AC now, which I know has got to be coming from the compressor. I may call the body shop and see if this can be covered by their warranty or turned back in on the insurance. AC was fine before I hit that deer. Oh well, gotta have AC here in Fla.
Thanks again,
Jimmy
