I've got a 3.9 that shows no error codes when on scaner. Sometimes it starts and runs OK, up to about 3k rpm. usually it farts and dies untill it gets warm. If I turn the ign. off & on it sometimes resets and runs OK. If i'm on the road I need to fick the key while
just touching the throtle in a gear that pulls low rev's. Replaced fuel filter,O2 sensor,PCV,plugs,wires,rotor & cap.Coil is OK, no play in distrib shaft. Found a vac leak & fixed.If I pull a sensor wire it picks it up on scaner so I presume all sensors are working. Runs same but getting worse (craps out at 1200rpm cold, 2K when at op. temp.). Ignition restart makes me think computer glitch (plus?).
please tell me I'm not alone!

Sounds like the ECU temp sensor is bad. Located directly behind alternator in the intake manifold. Do not confuse this for the temp gauge sensor on the RF of manifold.
The sensor you want will be buried almost beneath one of the a/c compressor brackets and part of the wire harness.
It's cheap, about $10 IIRC.

Larry, Thanks for input. Fuel psi is right at 40 but it does sound like it,s going way lean when it craps out. Maint. Requred lite is on. chk. engn. is off. Any idea why fliping the switch on and off is the only way to get it to run again? The temp sensor was bad but replacing didn't cure prob. Truck has only 70k so cat. should be OK, plenty of pressure from tailpipe. Something sounds like aloose heat sheild when starting from stop but no parts loose. Back pressure sensor or EGR? (grasping at straws?)

Have you ruled out the fuel pump? The fact that you say you toggle the ignition would give that a possibility, as you increase (a little!) the psi in the lines when you charge the fuel pump on ignition. Might be that?! But generally speaking it SHOULD get worse not better as you drive it after it burns through the fuel in the lines, but i've seen it go both ways.
