Subject: Engine trouble in hot, humid weather

Message:
My 3.9L manual Dakota has been having intermittent problems when I start it up on hot days. Every once in a while, the rpm drops quickly and the truck almost stalls, or runs rough around 2-300rpm. when I try to drive it, there is little to no power, but there are no computer codes indicating a problem. After it has been running for a few minutes, the problem seems to go away. I replaced the plugs and wires about a month ago, but this problem just arose recently. any ideas?

Probably the IAC valve. Then again though all the sensors on the throttle body will make it run like crap. I know that the MAP and TPS will also do this.

Finally... a V8. '01 Dodge Dakota RC, 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LSD. = R/T Killer.
well at least a stock one

sounds more like a bad o2

They will stay at high volts like around
3.9 4 volt will not trip a code than after
a minit or 2 they will begain flip flop
and it will run fine

For instance
You park at a store hot day come out start truck
idle a little rough than when you try to
excellerate it will seem like there is no gas
there than all of a sudden jump rev up and
run fine

That is a bad and lazy o2 sensor

ngk.com
This is the same sensor that was installed at the
factory and will run great and work properly
stay away from any othe o2 sensors especialy
the bosch

I'd bet on the TPS instead of the O2 sensor. Classic signs of trouble with it are stalling or low, rough initial idle on hot restart.

An O2 sensor will run worse, not better, after a few minutes.

If the truck is not warmed up the O2 sensor is not going to adjust either way. The only thing that my bad 02 sensor did was when I was heavy on the gas then let out of it and tried to cruise it would choke out.

i thought the pcm didn't read the O2 until it got to a set temp? if that's the case i don't think it would be the o2 either.
