Subject: Single exhaust or daul exhaust? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 dakota QC 3.9. I am replacing the factory muffler. Is there and performance or sound difference by going dual out or single out. Is the only benefit of the dual out for the looks.

Message: You're correct, Montag. Marginal increase though. Maybe 2-3 horsepower more than a dual exhaust. Gibson said the reason for this because a single exhaust doesn't have dual pulses fighting each other to get out. I imagine a true dual exhaust system wouldn't have those pitfalls.

Message: Hey...another Ernie on the board! Cool!
Anyway, I don't think the HP differences are far off between a single or dual setup. The main difference is in torque. You lose a little torque when running a single in/ dual out setup...not sure about true duals though. With the 3.9L, it is probably best to stay single if you want to keep some low-end...if you don't care, then go for the duals.

Message: I put a single exit exhaust that comes out in front of the passenger rear tire. I have a 96 dak I had to bend the pipe below the frame though. Looks great and alot different than all the rear dual exhaust chevys and fords out there.
P.S. It's a 40 series Flowmaster
