Message: anyone ever tried the fix a flat that comes in a can? i've got a slow air leak in one of my tires and i checked and there is no screws or nails in tire. i've still got about 5/32 left of tire and don't want to get new ones just yet. i get snows put on every winter and i'm wondering if this last time around when the put the factory's back on if the bead isn't messed up or the valve stem. i'm wondering it that "fix a flat" stuff would work. anyone know?

Message: Do not use this stuff. I used this one time on a previous car and it made the wheel out of balance. The liquid will form on a side and stay there in most cases. There is no way of knowing if all the material is spread evenly. It is only for Emergency tire inflation. It does work but not worth it. Take it to a tire shop and have them look at it or a gas station. it's pretty cheap to get it plugged.

Message: You can even check it yourself. all you need is soapy water in a spray bottle (get from dollar store or big lots). Air the tire up and spray it in small sections.
it might be a small nail you are not seeing (finish nail) or it may be a leak at the sidewall/rim.
If it is a hole in tread, the full patch kit is around $10. I do recommend the full kit not just the individual pieces (tools, plugs, etc).
I've patched several tires with my kit and never had a problem with any. I even patched my father-in-law's lawn mower tire last year and he's still running on it.

Message: DON'T USE FIX A FLAT ! Most tire repair shops won't even touch your tire if you have this stuff in it lot liabilty issues. I would follow Dan M.'s suggestion if I had this problem, but most tire shops won't patch it unless you do it yourself or have a freind in business because again liabilty issues to many lawsuits could arise Good Luck.. I would fix it or have the $$ replace tire and use it for a spare later

Message: I have used fix a flat and it works, guy's he's only got 5/32 of tread left, your suppose to replace tires at 2/32 so its not like he going to run this tire for the rest of his life, I have used it a bunch and never had any problems. But the tires I used it on were just about wore out to begin with though, any way there is another opinion.

Message: The tire places by me are all fine with patching tires, doesn't seem to be any liability issues I've heard them concerned about. They don't like that canned crap because it makes the tire so messy to deal with afterward on top of the already mentioned balance issue. I've had great luck with plugs, and don't see any problem with them. Back when I was working at a friends repair shop 20 years ago, a plug salesman drove in off the highway with 80 plugs in the front sidewall of his full size van - obviously, he trusts his product.

Message: i've had great luck with plugs. you can buy a kit with the install tool, reamer tool and 3 plugs at Wallyworld for about 5 bucks.
i brought a tire(30k miles on it) to them to repair, under their road hazard warranty. the leak was right where the tread and sidewall meet so they said no way. they wanted to give me like a $10 credit for the old tire. i said no thanks, bought the kit there and rolled that tire another 30k.

Message: Your slow leak could be a "bead" problem. I had a really slow leak with my spare, which turned out to be a bead problem. Take it to a tire shop and have them break the bead, clean the wheel AND the tire bead, and then check for leaks.

Message: Could also be as simple as a bad valve stem or valve core.
