Message: That's a tall tire. 30.5 inches tall if I did my math right. stock tires are 28-29 inches tall. I've seen 30x9.50 on a stock 2wd. I don't know if they'll rub. But then I don't know why you'd put a taller tire on a 2wd, it'll make your final gear ratio worst not better. If you have 3.92 gears in your rear I don't think it would hurt to bad. But if you have 3.55's or 3.23's you'd be screwing yourself out of performance. I have 3.55's in my '00 Dakota, and I replaced the stock tires with 275/60/r15's. They're fat, but not taller than stock. They don't rub anywhere. If you chose wider tires for traction just remember that the extra traction is from a bigger contact patch of rubber on the road. Friction is made from the increased contact patch can also decrease MPG. So if you have 8 inch wide rims on your'02 you should be able to also go as wide as a 275mm tire. But you might want to stay with the stock height tire......Hope that helps.

Message: I apreciate that advice and i will defiently use the 275/60's on my other dakota(my performace truck V8) but this is my work truck and I would just like a little takker tire. I hear or guys throwin 31's on their 2wd trucks but they have the 15in rim so i wasn't sure if the backspacing or something of that sort would effect the outcome on the 16in rim

Message: I have a 2004 dodge dakota 2wd and I replaced the stock tires with 265/75/16 and have not experienced any rub. Glad with my choice to go bigger as it helped the looks alot. as far as performance, i can still hang with or beat a lot of cars and trucks on the road so i'm not complaining and yes my gas mileage has dropped but not really because i'm constantly running faster than the speedometer for ex: when i'm going 55 i'm going 65 so the added ground i'm covering evens it out pretty close.
