Hello,
Tried to change out spark plugs today on my Dakota, but found out the hard way that I should have left it up to a pro, since it had been 90,000 since they were last changed. A long story short--one of the heat shields rusted basically into the spark plug and while trying to remove it, I broke the ceramic stem of the plug. I was able to plug the wire back in.
Can I still drive the truck without doing any kind of damage?

I never heard of anyone breaking a plug and still running the engine, I would think if it runs, it would probably be ok, but I think some of the built in resistence would be gone, (not bad)
Did you break it trying to take it out or putting it in (the new one)???? If you broke the new one I would buy another and replace it.

Well, it started when I decided to get that #3 plug out or else :-) I wanted to remove the heat shield to getter better look at it. The heat shield, however, had its own plan. I ended up whacking off the ceramic coating off the plug, then to find out that the bottom of the shield is rusted to the damn plug--so it ain't going anywhere without some better help.
I knew I shouldn't have started it to begin with.

Oh, forgot to add that I won't be driving it. Running on five cylinders right now.

chances are you will destroy a 02 sensor . no matter when you do it, it has to be done
