Message: The first hughes cam
idle to 4500rpm
dyno showed 23hp and 35 torque at 2000rpm over
the stock cam just were you need it high way
crusing speeds and pulls strong right to redline
peak 25 and 40 torque
The second hughes cam
1800 to 5500rpm
This cam comes on strong around 2000rpm peak
torque gains around 3500rpm peak hp around 4700rpm
peak rear wheel 31hp
peak torque 48
this cam is more for the 2 wheel street guy
both trucks dynoed before cam change have bigger
throttle bodies and all the mods done the cam was
the next step
The 1.7 harlands are a great mod still dyno at
15 to 18 rwhp gains a cheap price for the gains
I have decided to go with the hughes low end
torque cam in my 4x4

Message: Ok so I am looking at the cam and reading that it requires the different springs but I have hydralic lifts in my truck so I guess the question is is there a change I need to make or can I put the cam in without changing anything but the cam?
2000 Dakota 3.9 V6 Magnum maybe someone can help me.

Message: Mad Max
Thats great
Almost identical to how my truck is setup
except I have the MSD system and no cam I have
been dynoing in just over 200 rwhp
Have not run this truck in the 1/4 but I have been
enjoying 24mpg and better combined highway city
last check 24.76 95 4x4
My 94 sport 2 wheel short box reg cab with the
stroked motor runs 309/322 at the wheels and
will trip the 1/4 at 13.2 13.3 all day long
My 95 4x4 with the first stroker motor I built
dynoed at 267/305 and would do 14,4 1/4 mile
Mad Max I will tell you most people are missing
the boat here if they ever rode in or drove a
V6 dakota with all the mods tuned right and
running great they would crap there paints LOL
Even with my stock motor I love driving my Dak
the good gas mileage and just how peppy it is
makes it fun to drive and will blow away almost
every other pickup on the road
I am running at 183 to 185 the elect fan comes on
the mopar techs say the best performance and gas
mileage is right at 183 this is where the
computer is running better timing and fuel maps
The cam I have decided to do the cam not go V8
with all the gaskets new lifters and everything
you need the job parts alone around $800
For most the harland 1.7's work great 18hp for
around $300 and a lot less work

Message: So I just got the 3.9 dynoed....
running 165 rwhp and 203 rwtq at an Air/Fuel ratio of 15.12 across the board <--- THAT IS LEAN!
AND this is with ALL the mods below:
-- rebuilt motor @ 9.5 to 1 compression with about 7,000 miles on her
(HUGHES ENGINES: 1.6 roller rockers, retainers, pushrods, springs, HER0814
CAM - sweet spot 1800-5500 RPM)
-- heads milled .020 over
-- intake manifold gasket matched, and removed divider
-- FMS 19 # injectors
-- F&B 48mm tb
-- K&N FIPK
-- MSD 6A box, blaster coil, & 8.5mm wires
-- NGK FR5 spark plugs gapped at .060
-- JBA ceramic coated headers
-- 2.5" exhaust all the way back with dynomax muffler & high-flow cat
-- 4.10 rear end gearing
what should I do about the truck running so lean? the tech suggested I get the 24 # blue top FMS injectors.... what do you think??
and Im having Tom Fox flash my pcm next week.
any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! this truck needs some fine tuning desperately.. 165 to the wheelies with all those mods is WEEEAAKK!
Mad Max... what injectors are you running??
thank you!

Message: Fed,
Try reducing the sparkplug gap on your FR5s to .050, I bet your running too hot. Look at your plugs and check the color should be a tannish brown color. This could account for the lean condition. How many miles on the O2 sensor? Too much flow thru the engine and too wide a gap, the engine will run hot, this could account for the lean out condition. Another thing if you have access to an ODB1 scanner check the long term fuel trim befroe and after reducing the gap on the plugs. With your set up the stock computer should have a wide enough range to handle the changes you have made. Do these things first, then do the flash as a lst resort. Email Larry for suggestions.
92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.

Message: Do yall still reply to questions
here almost 9 years later? 1999
3.9V6 Hughes plenum kit, ground
intake runners & divider, mod TB.
Looking for feedback on whether to
go with 9204 or 0814 Hughes cam?
Which cam has better low end torq,
mid range pulling, and gas mileage
difference? Also how does the idle
sound on the 9204
Hope to hear soon. Thnkx, Randy
