Can a slack chain cause poor performance? My 95 has 148K and has some enging rattle when idiling. Also, when I accelerate like up an entrance ramp to the Interstate, it feels like I am towing a lead vault! It doesn't miss, just won't develope power like it should. I have changed plugs, rotor, cap, wires, plugs, and the 02 sensor.

Sounds like the converter is plugged. You can disconnect it at the engine side and drive it. If your performance is back you found it. It will be a loud ride.

and it could also be the chain
noticed a big difference in my truck when i put a new chain in
if you hear it rattling, change it
and also put it a chain tensioner

Yes replace the chain and use the tensioner

The stock chain is a strong setup unless
your doing a lot of internal engine mods the
stock chain is fine

But get one from the dealer and not just the chain
but chain and sprokets

If you want a super strong chain JP Performance
double roller from socaldakota.com around $85
shiped but also use the tensioner with this

dealer, summit racing, hughes engines all have
the tensioner

At 148,000 its over do 100,000 with no tensioner
they will run and not rattle for 200 250,000 when
the tensioner is used

You will lose low end power with a cam that is
retarded from chain wear it makes a big diff, I
have seen these chains so lose I wondered how
they kept going without jumping a tooth

You need the tensioner because for some reason
even the mopar techs can not answer the cam was
machined .050 low closer to the crank any chain
will be lose from the start
