Message: Can't really add much to this...but that's really interesting. In theory, it seems like that should be perfectly safe on the engine...though I've never tested it so I could be way off. I passed it on to my grandpa to see if he's heard anything...plus he's got a friend who owns a shop and I wanted to find out his opinion on it. If this checks out to be safe, I'd love to experiment around with it...but at the same time, I don't wanna go into it blindly cuz I can't really afford a new engine currently.

Message: The amount of acetone is too small to harm the engine or any components. I've tried it and can't really tell the difference or at least the difference is no greater than you might expect from one brand of gas to another.
One thing I did find factual and that is their observation that so-called cold air intakes and helical type tb spacer can and do reduce gas mileage. The best thing you can do to get better mileage, especially during the winter, is to fabricate a warm air intake. Older cars used to have thremostatically control warm intakes. A tube went from the air cleaner down to the exhaust manifold and when the engine warmed up a valve would close and allow cooler air to enter for more power. The system was designed to give better drivability and eliminating it made run a car run like crap when cold and mileage suffered.

Message: Good post N56629. Just to add a bit here, in those days first thing I did to the car/truck was check to see if that butterfly was froze up. very common to happen. checking it was part of every tuneup .

Message: Well damn...sucks you didn't see any significant gains. I was hoping to see someone be like, "Yeah man! I've been doing that for a while and getting 10 more mpg!"
One can always hope...lol.
I talked to a friend of mine about it earlier tonight and he said, "It definitely would clean your internals out." So I guess in a way, right there would have its benefits...since everyone knows a cleaner engine will run much longer/better than an old sludged up one.

Message: actually i heard this argument just like this from an old man that i used to work with. It was sort of similar about the whole vaporizing idea. except his idea was to have the gas heated up before it hit the fuel injectors and then have that vapor mix with the cool air and it would cause a better combustion giving you more power or MPG depending on how heavy your foot is.
i was thinking about trying it on an engine but then i got lazy!

Message: Ive used it and and yeah it works on some vehicles others ive noticed zero difference.
My dads subaru went from 22 mpg to 25 after we stopped use and it maintained its 24-25 mpg though after a year of driving it slowly tappered back to 22. We now add it once a month as a cleaner since im sure thats where the gain came from in that particular vehicle in the first place.
Used it in an old hesston swather equiped with an industrial chrysler slant 6. The throttle on it works like on ur lawn mower its self governing. In this particular application it saved 4 gallons of fuel a field on average.
Ive put it in my atv cant measure mpg but loved how it had more punch with vs without and ive tested this multiple times since none of the others vehicles ive had showed a noticeable differance in the old butt dyno.
Ive put it in diesel as well though in a tractor still not sure how to check economy since in those its something like gallon hp/hr I noticed when used in a diesel it ran a little bit warmer temp wise.
I use acetone as a winter additive for my diesels since ive noticed a night and day difference in starting diesel equipment in cold weather.
Dont use to much ive made my mileage take a dive in doing so. Play around with the amounts u will notice some respond well to more and some less. Keeping an accurate record will help.
Word of warning test it on any plastics it will touch i havent had any plastic engine parts melt yet but i have melted a plastic water bottle i had cut for use as a funnel.

Message: I'll bite, I'll try a few ounces soon. I have about 1/2 a gallon left in a gallon tin in my garage.
If I see a difference on the puter's ECO estimate, I'll post about it in a few weeks.

Message: Also...most people are smart enough to realize this, but for those that aren't. Don't drip that stuff on your paint...it'll eat the clearcoat right off and eat right into the paint.
For a good example of what it'll do...pour a little on a table with a nice glossy finish (don't do this on a GOOD table...). lol

Message: be doing another T.U. soon
just ordered borg warner wires
and had to order a echlin cap an rotor
2 local Napa's and neither stock them any more
once its done i'll run 2 tank fulls
then i'm going to try the acetone
i'll start with 1 oz per 10 gals
then move to 2 then 3
see which works best of any
will be a few months but i will update this

Message: I would love to believe there is a silver bullet for our gasoline woes, but this seems too good to be true. If I had a 1990 dakota or something along the lines of that I would try it but dumping that into a truck with 80k and 7 yrs on its belt seems scary. And why dont you hear about this on the news? Just the internet? Kinda scary running something unknown with all the sensors in our vehicles. If it works I better invest in a company that pumps out the acetone!! Someone show me cold hard facts....... Not chemistry B.S.

Message: Water injection is the best way to make a little gain. also cleans your engine spotless inside. in winter you need to ad alcohol to keep the water from freezing.

Message: Water injection isn't all that great unless you have a way of leaning the mixture and or advancing the timing. We found it to most useful on long trips and should only be activated when the engine is fully warmed up. In city driving, with frequent stop and go, it created even more moisture problems than normal city driving. You will find that you need more frequent oil changes. The startup cost and additional maintenance don't seem to justify its use.
Properly used, you can increase both performance and mpg at the same time. You can run leaner, have higher compression and more spark advance without pinging. It's most often used with forced induction where some of those condition occur.
If you like to experiment this certainly something worth playing with but make sure you do it right or it will be a waste of time and money.

Message: but GB2000 you also have to consider
that fuel injector cleaner. carb cleaner spray.
DOT3 brake fluid. brake parts cleaner
& even gas sometimes will also lift paint
and nice to see all you guys responding
nice to have something fresh to talk about

Message: heh, here's an obvious one. Superchips controllers can change tire size.Put a real small set of tires on the truck & set the superchips to the largest size tire it will allow.Watch your mileage skyrocket..
yep ,Acetone will mess up every non-metallic component in your fuel system. pics of mine will prove it.get a clue!! when gasoline is more than 5 bucks a gallon then I'll worry... wuss dogs, all of you!!If MPG is a concern why are you posting on a performance site?BTW flame all you want I won't be back until I pick on certain butt-pipes again(fighting with your keyboard only proves my point).I wish I had an acetone facory to sell to all you guys.. mp GEEZ!
