alright so heres the deal, my truck has recently started sounding pretty loud and the excess noise is definatly coming from the rear. at first i though it might have been lack of fluids in the differential, but the levels were fine. I propped it up on jacks and when i accelerated only the right rear tire moved forward like normal while the left rear did nothing..... isnt the left rear supposed to move the opposite direction? and if so what could cause this phenomenon??? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Only one tire spins because you have an open differential.... Change the fluid.. If the whine continues it may need a pinion angle adjustment I think they put shims in from the factory?? Also the higher the gear ratio the louder they are. I have a 3.92 rear that is way louder than my freinds 3.55. Check your glovebox door for what you have... Hope this helps a little

if you don't have the glovebox sticker check for a tag on the rear housing.

Before you get in deep, put it on blocks again. Be darn sure it is stable. With the truck NOT RUNNING and in not in gear. Try turning both wheels. listen for crackling sound and roughness looking for a bad wheel bearing. If both sides feel good try turning the 3rd member with the drive shaft. unless it was run out of lube the gears should be ok. If it turns out to be a 3rd member bearing, Fix it fast or you well be buying gears also.

It is also with the truck not running that we spin one wheel to check for an open rear, or LSD - that's why you saw that result. If you're lucky its just a wheel bearing; the carrier bearing in Mopar's diffs have a bad reputation.
