Subject: shaving composite intakes IP: Logged
Message: I have a question that mabye you guys can help with. Its not about a dakota its just a general question and this site has been helpful in the past, so I thought I would try it again. I have a set of heads that have been shaved to give me around 10 to 1 compression and I want to know if you can shave a composite plastic intake to match so there are no leaks. This is actually for my 5.3 chevy avalanche. However if it works well on this vehicle I will do the same to my 04 4.7 club cab. Any useful info is appreciated.

Message: really depends on the intake manifold.
Someone on here took the 4.7L intake cut it and modified it and put it back together and from what i seen it looked to be some thin stuff and he did have some leaks. Though he did cut it open to modify the length of the runners inside it.

Message: ES I think I remeber reading about that on here. I would think you could shave a composite intake because they resurface heads all the time it would make sense that there is extra material on the intake for this reason, but that is probably me expecting to much from the manufactures. Thanks for the info.
