I'm working on my cousin's truck - 95 Dakota 3.9 4x2 (automatic)158k. His trans started slipping and now the truck will only move when it's cold. I just got a used trans to put in it with 60k miles. I'm planning to flush the lines & cooler, and put a new filter & fluid in the replacement trans. Should I attempt to adjust any bands? If so, how do I go about doing so? Any other areas of attention before putting this other trans in?

if you're dropping the pan to change the filter you might want to adjust the bands. pick up a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for 20 bucks and you should have all the info you'll need. i'd never attempt anything like that without a manual.
