Subject: Installing used trans -any tips? 95 Dak. IP: Logged
Message: I'm working on my cousin's truck - 95 Dakota 3.9 4x2 (automatic)158k. His trans started slipping and now the truck will only move when it's cold. I just got a used trans to put in it with 60k miles. I'm planning to flush the lines & cooler, and put a new filter & fluid in the replacement trans. Should I attempt to adjust any bands? If so, how do I go about doing so? Any other areas of attention before putting this other trans in?
Thanks for any ideas,
Steve H.

Message: if you're dropping the pan to change the filter you might want to adjust the bands. pick up a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for 20 bucks and you should have all the info you'll need. i'd never attempt anything like that without a manual.

See above for info = should be enough to allow you to set up the tranny , or at least verify that things are ok.
