Subject: timing chain IP: Logged
Message:
After suffering poor gas mileage for about two years, I changed out the plugs, wires, rotor, and distributor cap and 02 sensor. Not much help. I can hear what sounds like timing chain slap coming from the engine. Could a loose or worn chain cause poor gas mileage by not advancing the timing correctly? The truck has 150,000. Any help would be appreciated.

Message: If the timing chain is that worn that u can hear it slap you will be loosing power and MPG. As the vavles are off time with TDC. Once u put in a new one u will notice alot more TQ and about 3 MPG or that was my case anyway. Its not a hard job Just takes a day and i would replace the front main seal well your in there its about 7 bucks
