If anyone else knows this, feel free to chime in...I just know Larry's got a lot of experience in this area compared to most here so I don't want him to overlook it in case he's the only one who knows it:)

Anywho...I just bought the two new sensors for my transmission. Yeah, I'm throwing my money into parts, but if it fixes everything, it'll be cheaper than taking it in and having someone fix it.

The two sensors were the overdrive lockup solenoid (http://www.napaautoparts.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=ATP&PartNumber=16474&Description=A%2fTrans+Solenoid) and the governor pressure solenoid (http://www.napaautoparts.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=ATP&PartNumber=16479&Description=A%2fTrans+Solenoid).

Can you explain where these are and how to go about swapping them out (if it's not self-explanitory when I get to it)? I have a Haynes manual and it doesn't even mention these solenoids from what I can tell...if it does and I'm not looking in the right place, feel free to just give me the page numbers and I'll look it up.

Any help is greatly appreciated...I'm hoping once this is done...no more problems.

Oh, snap! I just realized I have a PDF of an 01 FSM I think...I'll look through it in a minute and post if I can find the info. Heck, for those who want it, leave me a message with an email addy and I'll pass it on. Not gonna upload it anywhere since I'm sure I could get in some legal trouble.

I found some info on the governor pressure sensor and solenoid, but nothing on the overdrive lockup solenoid. If you could email me a few of the pages, it'd be great. GB2000ATwoh.rr.com

I've a 3.9 99 Dakota 2WD. When leaving in morning for work tranny will not shift for some time from 1>2. After it does then it shifts fine. Am wondering if the output sensor switch is the problem. Have noted also possibly that when it/s hot it has a time shifting to 2nd also but more infrequent than when starting the day out. I have no lights or indicators that come on my instrument panel such as check engine, trans press, etc. Have driven it from Chicago to Salt Lake (1800mi) no problem except about half way when pulled in and it was a hot day and didn't want to shift. After awhile it did. Went on another trip from Salt Lake to Phoenix (700mi) with no problems except again a few instances in Phoenix and it was hot. Not necessarily the engine was hot but outsdie it was hot. Drove back to Salt Lake (700) no problems. Let it set a few days and drove again and again 1>2 gear shift delay. Have tried starting 2nd gear lever to upshift but nada happens. Not even from 3rd gear lever up. Its like its bipolar tranny and mind of its own. Help if you can.

Hey, GB and Daddio - if you want to ship that whole document, there's a free service that allows you to ship large documents via the web. Go to www.pando.com and get it. Both parties have to have it for it to be useful. I use it fairly often, particularly when I have something big to ship and am concerned about the company's firewall - or the client's firewall - stopping it.

You need to drop the trans pan to replace the
sensors

The O/D and lockup are just solinoids that turn
on and of by the computer completing the ground
side 12 volt is always there when the key is on

The sols 200 ohm resistance 180 to 220 normal

The presure sensor and sol are a little more
criticle the comp reads the presure and the sol
opens and closes to adjust this presure

personaly I don't like this setup the old hydrolic
pressure control was more trouble free

What this was done for was the begaining of the
torque managment systems on these trucks

You can use a resistore as supplied in the transgo
kit and fake out the comp take the pressure adjt
up 4 turns this will firm all the shifts up

without the resistor only 2 turns up this is aprox
10 to 12 psi line pressure any more will trip a
trouble code

center port in drive brake on 50 to 70 psi as soon
as you touch the gas it should jump 100psi plus

This line pressure can be taken up to 85psi in a
stock trans

If you want the best shift kit out there with
the best instructions that tell you exactly what
the changes do so you can make the trans work
just like you want
smrtrans.com $250 this kit replaces a bunch of
springs and the body mods to really shift fast
and firm not neck snaping but nice and firm unless
you want tire chirpng 1-2 2-3 shifts also alows
the trans to handle more torque and last longer

I do recomend dealer for the sensors for the
pressure control napa does have spec and org parts
stay away from anything else

The thing about the dealer is they are well aware
of the probs with these I have gotten new ones
that did not work right and they will replace them
free if new and bad napa no return on elect parts
so the money you save may bite you in the a$$
