To all when doing routine maintenance on our trucks whether you have V-6, 5.2/5.9L V-8's be sure you INSPECT YOUR (EVEP PURGE SOLENOID HOSES) Found by battery almost overlooked this found mine the smaller of two hoses was split on the bottom side created a vacuum leak and bigger hose was shown signs of cracking so I trim back and reconnected what was bad or you could replace whole hose if you wish little costly for the bigger of the two. This will effect some of your mileage if you are suffering some. Sometimes your MIL lamp won't trip a code unless leak is big enough for it to sense a problem

From 97-03 trucks with V-6 5.2/5.9L location of EVAP Purge solenoid location is by battery side below your battery tray the canister itself is underside leftside inside frame rail. I looking in my info to see where 4.7L and 3.7L are located not sure if they omitted this in these 04' trucks and newer will look and get back or if someone else posts. Eairler models they are located underside right front fender under headlight

PETE. Check your information . Guys with 99 and older trucks will go wild looking for the purge valve. There on the fire wall, drivers side. Good information otherwise

Thats cool OBIO3 most of the ones I worked with were by the lower part of the battery tray but they have move them around as you were saying the futher they put from the canister the longer the hose and I would check the entire length of both hoses and detemine replacement as needed. Thanks for correcting of locations on some of our trucks will pass info to some of my freinds.

Hey Pete,
Yeah i had checked all the hoses and the two that are "u" shaped running from the canister were both cracked lol i duct taped them last year to get by inspection which it worked but then procrastinated getting new hoses since my tape job seemed to be holding up, It was one of those "fix one part and the other goes out a month later" so this was a span of about two years changing it all out. It's nice to not see the check engine light come on anymore lol.

Thought I would mention Why they moved the Purge valve from drivers side fire wall to behind the battery. New or old there is a 50/50 chance they will make a knocking noise after engine warms a bit. You can only here it while in the drivers seat. It can drive a guy nuts trying to hear it under the hood. Put your hand on it and you can feel it thumping. Well. I noticed they are rubber mounted and they do this little jump jump jump thing lol. I took a piece of Velcro and stuck it to the fire wall behind the purge and wallah. No more knock. I think the real issue is some are closer to the fire wall then others and hit it when they jump.

Hey rick that DUCT tape fixes just about everthing like WD-40 LOL.... to bad you couldn't do that in repair shop you might have yourself a problem or two, your customers might ask where you went to school for auto mechanics and got your certifications from a ceral box LOL... sometimes the dum things work better than repairing the right way but if it gets you buy for ahwhile be so.... but I would fix it to keep other problems from arising later

I just bought a new Purge Solenoid and Charcoal Canister.

My Purge Solenoid in my 1999 started making all that noise. Took forever to track down. LOL

Via the advice from a Chrysler/Dodge Mechanic with 25 years experience. I pulled the hose off the charcoal canister, charcoal came out. Apparently, that charcoal coming out of the canister means the canister is bad and the charcoal eventually finds its way into the Purge Solenoid making it tick real loud before it goes out.

He told me to make sure I blow out the lines with compressed air when changing out the parts.
