 Subject: Fuel pump shut off

Can anyone help
I just bought a 89 model and no fuel will come out of the tank. Is there a a safety shutoff switch somewhere I should try before removing the tank and replacing the fuel pump. The truck came from my work and I know it sat empty on fuel for 1 and 1/2 years before sitting I know it ran just fine. If you can help that would be great and thank you. I removed the line coming to the filter and can't get any fuel to come out even with the key on.
