Subject: Help! This is strange... IP: Logged
Message: 92,didn't drive it for a week. Got in, turned key
and nothing happened. Had lights, everything
worked, but no starter. So, as a temp fix I rig a
simple remote starter switch. All is well.
Now the a/c compressor won't engage.
Checked the fuse under the hood, it's okay,
there is voltage on one side of the fuse socket.
Did a relay swap with the fuel pump relay, no
joy. I can feel the relay engage when I plug it
in. Checked ALL the fuses under the dash,
they are all good. The reason I checked them
all is because the owners manual says #3 is
the a/c electronic clutch switch, and it's 5 or 10
amps, but there's a 30 amp in there. I'm used
to Italian m/c schematics being wrong, so I
checked them all.
I find it strange the starter and a/c both check
out at the same time, while not being used.
Might this be the wire harness splice by the
fuse/relay box?

Message: It's not the battery, I recently replaced it, and swapped it out with my car's battery just to make sure.
Besides, if it was the battery, why does it crank with a jumper wire to the solenoid, and what does it have to do with the a/c compressor not working? The starter and compressor switch are in the same circuit.
I went out and putzed with it here at work a while ago, and took a look at the wiring harness near the relay box. At the splice there was an unused wire with a bullet connector. I grabbed the wire and it fell off...all green and corroded, leaving me to suspect the splice.
I'm driving the truck still, so I'll take a look at it this weekend after I get the scoot back together.
Thanks

Message: IT'S FIXED!
The problem was indeed the wire splice.
In fact there are TWO wire splices. One has three blue wires from the relay box into one blue wire. These wires are fused, or welded together, then taped with vinyl tape.
The splice that failed had one wire from the starter relay, one from the a/c relay and one from the a/c fuse. Wires were corroded apart cleanly-as if they had been cut and then corroded.
I have a temp fix of a wire nut until I can fix it correctly with a mechanical soldered connection this weekend. This also allows me to replace all the old, decayed fabric tape on the harness.
Thanks to this board and all on it for informing us of this problem. It saved my wallet!
