Message: Hey guys!,I absolutly love the site,I have a 04 with a 3.7, 64000kms,the problem is the steering is intermittent, sometimes the wheel will turn just fine, than five minutes later it will feel as it i am turning a wheel with manual steering, than a couple of minutes later the steering will be fine again, just wondering if its the power steering pump or the rack itself, any replies would be appreciated

Message: I would suspect the rack. I had a leased Taurus company car 3-4 years ago, and when the rack and pinion went out on it it started the same way. First manifestion was in parking lots - I'd hear a slight "groan" and the steering would tighten up and get hard to turn the wheel. As quickly as it did it, it would quit. It went out completely with no warning on the way to the airport. We manhandled it on anyway, and the Ford guy at the dealership had a duck fit when we took it in the next week for warranty repairs - said it was unsafe to drive, and couldn't believe that we'd been to the airport and back (about 80 miles).

Message: That's pretty funny cause I'm having the same problem with my 04 club cab 3.7L 5 spd (about 55,000 miles) that I bought brand new. It's only happened to me twice and it was about a month time difference between the two. The first time it was so quick that I almost second guessed myself that it happend. But it just happened to me again the other day. I should probably check the fluid level first! I've been taking my motorcycle to work, maybe I'll take a look today. Let me know how it works out for you cause depending on my fluid levels, I might have the same problem.
Thanks,
Matt

Message: will do matt, like i said, i just lucked out that the dealer who sold me the truck has a one week fifteen hundred kms exchange program, so since its only been a couple of days the dealership has the option of fixing the problem or giving me my money back!!,hmmm guess which option they're going to go with

Message: Hey red baby, any news on the steering problem. I check my power steering fluid and the levels are fine so I'm guessing it is a little more of a problem then low power steering fluids. I'd be interested to hear what the dealership told you.
Thanks,
Matt

Message: well I got my baby back yesterday!!!, the dealership replaced the rack but not the pump, apparently the pump is just fine.not to mention the also gave me a front end alignment,so now she rides like she's on rails. Matt perhaps the rack on your truck is on its way out!, giving that your fluid levels are ok.
these could just be isolated incidences or perhaps there is a little more to this problem than the dodge gods would like us to know.
