Subject: Stalling second gear or on highway HELP! IP: Logged
Message: I have a 87 dakota carbureted. The problem is when i get on the highway it will end up bugging out and loose all power (like loss of fuel) This happend to me before and it ended up being the sending unit being roted so i was sucking air into my lines. Heres the thing i took the bed off thinkin some how it was the same thing obviously isnt. Already put a new fuel pump in it and fuel filter and its still bugging out. Cleaned the carb still did it and cleaned it again (nothing really in it) and still doing it.
What else could it be? I know its a loss of fuel because the way it bogs out, if you got the pedal mashed it will sing out in first then hit second and halfway through the RPM range it will dog/bug out. If you let off it will come back to life (less air to the little fuel thats left) Im completely stumped on this. Please anyone with any ideas let me know.

Message: Sounds similar to a problem I was having with a 305 Chevy pickup a while back...sounds like a carb problem. Not necessarily dirty parts but worn out parts or something that needs adjusted. Possibly even rebuilt.
Somebody suggested the accelerator pump for my problems...but from the reading I've been doing, it doesn't sound like that person's right. Could be something to check into though.
