Subject: New Y-pipe IP: Logged
Message: I was looking at JBA's y-pipe for my 03 Dakota QC. I am wondering if it is really worth it. I have a 48mm v8 tb, 3" x 10" round air cleaner assembly, homemade ram air hood, and a Flowmaster super 40 w/ a turndown after the muffler. I will be doing some towing and the rpm will be from 2000 to 3500rpms. Will I notice a differance? Thanks

Message: Oops sorry, but to answer your question, getting a new Y-pipe wont really matter too much with the stock exhaust manifolds, yet you will see a slight gain in torque. The stick y-pipe however is very restrictive. You'll see a greater gain if you were to put headers on your truck. Depending on the price, i would say look into getting your computer flashed or get the piggy back computer from Superchips.

Message: Also take a look at adding 1.7:1 Harland Sharp Roller Rockers,if you haven't already. Big improvement if you haven't. You have the TB.

Message: I havent really looked under the truck to much but I could have sworn that I only had one cat. I do not want to spend to much money because I will be replacing the motor next year. Will replacing the cat and the y-pipe help w/ my performance? I hope it wont hurt the bottom end.

Message: You wont kill your bottom end if you get a highflow cat or a new Y-pipe, unless you make the downpipe off the headers into 2.25" rather then the stock 2", if you are gonna put the 2.25" downpipes, you need to do some port and polishing work on the heads or have a v8 if you dont wanna lose your bottom end.
