Subject: Chime comes on when driving IP: Logged
Message: Hi Everyone
My 2001 Dakota's chime just started coming on a day ago without any warnings. No error codes, and it only happens when driving. The moment you stop, the chiming stops.
Any suggestions please?

Message: Does your Information Center say "Check Gauges"? Mine was doing that about a year ago, and when I'd look at the gauges, the ampmeter would be pegged. Turning on lights would get back to normal and the problem would be resolved for that day. The voltage regulator is part of the PCM, and I thought I was going to have to replace it. But, the problem went away when I installed the Superchips on it.

Message: My gas gauge is doing that. It will shoot to empty and chime, then once I take off, it goes back to normal. However, recently I've started to smell something funny and I can't tell if it smells electrical or like a clutch that's burning ( if the AC compressor clutch can burn, then that might be the source..I can't tell as I've not seen any smoking and a sniff test doesn't narrow down my search ). I'm worried I've got a wire shorting in the dash...

Nope, nothing at all. I checked the odometer after the on/off/on/off/on and all it said was P Done.
"Turn signal on"
No signal on
"My gas gauge is doing that. It will shoot to empty and chime, then once I take off, it goes back to normal."
As I said, everything is normal. The moment the vehicle starts moving the chiming starts. When I sop at a light/stop sign, it stop, until I start moving again.
Without any error codes, all check lights working, can I not just disconnect the chime itself??

Message: My cap locks aren't stuck didn't realize they were on thanks, if you smell something electrical maybe you about to have chaos in your dash maybe something shorting out or bout burn up ?? This smell you smell your smelling is the first thing that you smell from the inner insulation of the wire begin to melt from getting to hot then rest is history to a short or a fire even. Did you hook any new electrical accesories like car stereo, aftermarket gauges, amplifier ?? if you did might tap into wire not known you did and might of shorted or overloading the circuit which might be something from your dash tied in with your chime you are experiencing. Any time you alter your electronics in these day in age trucks they are more sensitive then old school wiring todays trucks some are fiber optic wiring to ultra thin wiring not saying our trucks are this way yet to become I know on your high line cars are this way thats why you pay the big $$$ Good Luck...

Message: Also see that your talking your gas light issue might even have your sending unit in your tank might be ready to sh!t or cause chaos might have to drop tank and inspect and read resistance values with a digital meter values should be EMPTY 214 ohms to 226 ohms and FULL 14 to 26 ohms move the sending unit through this range out of spec. change part. Also check and be sure you got all your ground straps connected and your charging system is properly working and no loose connections ANYWHERE!! thoughout what you can see with the eye and if you did any wiring change or modification GOOD LUCK...

Message: Loose ( or crappy ) ground connection on the battery was my culprit. I had a starting issue ( clicking solonoid ) and had the hood up while trying to crank and saw corrosion smoking on the battery terminal. cleaned it up and it started right up. Haven't seen hide nor hair of the fuel gauge acting up either.
I think my smell may have been from that connection, or it could be from the AC clutch bearing as I've got some serious noise coming from that and particulate matter scattered around behind the pulley.
