Subject: cost of a new starter IP: Logged
Message:
My starter finally gave out on my '95 Dakota. I do quite a bit of wrenching on my truck but due to some other problems (flooding) I decided to take it to the dealership for the repair. Final cost was $352.31. I was shocked to see that the cost of the starter was $240.00!! Am I nukkin-futz or is this exorbitant?? I was thinking around a hundred to a hundred and a half. Granted, I haven't bought a starter in years. Anyway, just wondering what some of you think or if you have knowledge of what they sell for at a parts store.

Message: Yup. You threw 300 bucks right out the window. Alternators are another one. When you hit 100.000 miles, it's time to rebuild both BEFORE they can damage them selfs.
