Now that it's getting warmer and people are obviously driving more, take the time to consider the cost of a DUI. It's not worth the risk, neither the cost if caught in a DUI situation. It's not only the cost of the DUI and all the legal costs that go with it. It can cost you between 3000 and 6000 dollars a year. Please read the following article at the following link:

http://www7.insweb.com/newsletter/0507/auto.htm

I'm just trying to save someone the cost and trouble associated with this.

It's always a good time to consider driving under the influence.

In addition..
In some cases your license can be suspended that you can only drive to/from work. And some companies won't let you drive company vehicles if you have a conviction.

Good posts. Bailed a friend out yesterday. Cost me $5k but I'll get that back. The major damage is what his sons now think of him. I talked to them and he lost their respect. Sometimes money isn't the only thing that takes a hit.

Yeah, I almost got arrested when my dad wrecked his van while drunk. I didn't realize it at the time, as I've seen him drunk and he SEEMED sober...told me a dog ran out in front of him. So I took the quad out to find it expecting to just have to tow him out of the ditch or something and it was all hung up on a fire hydrant. Then he told me that I had to help him get it off and tell them I was driving, freaked out and ran home, and then got him to come help me get it off...and if I had a problem with it, to just remember that it's his house and I can always find another place to live (I was also a senior in HS and jobless at the time). Cops showed up with me attached to it...I'd managed to drag it off the hydrant clear into the middle of the road. Thankfully the cop knew me and after I gave him "my" story...he was like, "Josh...I know your dad was driving drunk...I saw him pulling into the bar a few hours ago." So they arrested my dad and charged him with DUI.

I dunno what the fines/lawyer costs were...but the city prosecutor's child was killed by a drunk driver, so you know right there that the court case went extremely well for him. The van was a lease and he obviously couldn't claim the wreck on insurance if he wanted to keep his policy. So he paid it out of pocket to get it fixed (he still owed somewhere around $16-20,000 on it). It cost $12,000 to fix it, and even after all that, it still had issues while driving...weird pops and stuff while driving.

On the bright side...when I was trying to push the van off the hydrant in 4-wheel drive...my front tires caught the bumper and I drove straight up the hood and windshield and flipped my quad over. The drunk guy who stopped to help us bout crapped himself (as did I...lol)...but the bodyshop went nuts trying to figure out why there were tire tracks going up the hood and windshield.

For the longest time I was straight edge (no drugs, alcohol smoking, casual §ex)...I've since moved on from that lifestyle and I do drink a little. But if I drink, I wait at least an hour PER drink (if I've only had a couple), if I plan on driving home...and if I am gonna drink more than just a couple, someone sober will already have my keys. My brother got his first DUI @ 16, shortly after my dad's...so I don't care to follow in their footsteps, nor do I want to risk it. I'd never be able to live with myself if I killed some innocent person due to a stupid decision.

Good post GB2000. I think you will be just fine with the attitude that you have about drinking.

One should never drink and drive

I used to drink when I was younger in my 20's
never got in any trouble the last beer I had
was in 1997 actualy had 2

I have seen so many people get hurt driving drunk
lose there licence lose jobs and family its just
not worth doing

But some never learn even after all the things
that happen to them they still drink a lot

LMFAO!

...and to add to my post, after all my dad went through, he quit drinking. Said "Repairing the van was 12,000 reasons why you don't drink and drive."

Then after he and my [now] stepmom got together, he started drinking again...and now he's back to the same old routine. That's also why I tread lightly when it comes to alcohol...I know my dad's an alcoholic and I know what kinda drunks he and my brother are (very cocky) and I know there's a good chance I'm the same way. I've never been drunk enough to lose my rational judgement...and if I ever plan to get that drunk, somebody will be getting my keys before it even starts. Excuse my typing if there's a million errors...haven't been to bed...

Just to add to all this talk about drinking and driving, I drive an 18 wheeler, and if I ever got caught with half of what anyone else would be allowed to get away with I would lose my licence, job and self respect. I haven't drank since 1983, Christmas, that was my last time to drink. Most people that know me think I'm screwed up enough without adding alchol to the mix. I don't do dugs either, I think I actually enjoy life more being sober, just my observation.
